- How the web was won. A good Vanity fair article telling an oral history of the web (it’s mostly quotes, in chronology from people involved). Hadi Partovi was my boss for a couple of years when I was on the Internet Explorer team, and I worked with Reardon back on Internet Explorer 1.0.
- IE8 beta gets 2 million downloads. The firefox folks are planning to out do them with their FF 3.0 release. It’s sad to me that the browser story these days is all about CSS and standards, and not about making web browsing smarter.
- How to look good on TV. The producers at CNBC didn’t offer much advice on this, but there seems to be plenty of it on the web.
- Stats on red-shirt deaths on Star Trek. Remember how the guys in red-shirts always get killed? This guy actually runs the numbers.
- New Nabokov story uncovered. Always have mixed feelings about publishing things the people who wrote them didn’t plan to publish. But then again, folks like Kafka wanted all their manuscripts burned and that would have been a shame. Can you say ‘mixed feelings’?
